The Victorian cells which were first open in 1891, housed some of the most notorious criminals in history, including the infamous Peaky Blinders and Ruth Ellis, the last woman to be hanged in the UK. These cells have a dark and eerie history, with reports of paranormal activity and unexplained occurrences.
The building is divided by a tunnel that runs under Coleridge Passage, which was one used to transport prisoners directly to the courts. It's possible that the spirits of those who made this journey still roam the halls, forever pleading their innocence to unseen ears.
If you're brave enough, you can take a seat inside one of the tiny cells, some of which are barely 5ft in size, and get up close and personal with the ghosts of the past. The screams and cries of those who were once imprisoned here still echo through the halls, and the banging of doors by ghostly hands is a common occurrence.
Are you ready to step Into the Shadows and explore the haunted history of the Steelhouse Lane Lock-up? It's a journey that's not for the faint of heart, but for those who dare to venture inside, the experience is sure to be unforgettable.
